Some of the greatest progressive rock albums of all times:

Welcome to browse my prog collection. Information is gathered from different places and no responsability of it's accuracy is taken. Currently there are 528 bands and 1436 albums.

About genres: many bands shift from one genre to another during their career so a better item to have a genre is an album. That's just what I have done. The genres used here are mine and reflect my point of view and help me organize my collection in my mind. If you don't agree it's OK. And don't worry - I'm mixt up many times also...

The genres I use are:

  • Ambient prog: A laid back athmospheric music that uses ellectronic and traditional instruments
  • Art rock: All sorts of progressive elements are there but lacks the symphonic treatment
  • Avantgarde:
  • Blues:
  • Classical:
  • Cross-Over: Composed for classical orchestra with addition of rock instruments
  • Electronic Prog: Progressive electronica
  • Ethnic:
  • Folk Prog: British folk music or progressive rock that has strong folk leanings
  • Jazz:
  • Jazz/rock fusion:
  • Jazzy prog: Not really fusion but prog rock with strong jazzy flavour
  • Metallic Prog: Usually quite melodic progressive rock that uses metallic elements
  • Pop: Light, melodic and catchy. Some prog elements migth be present but not to make it too difficult to digest.
  • Proggy Hard Rock: Hard rock with lots of bluesy jamming and distorted sounds but more complex arrangements
  • Psychedelic:
  • Rock: It's only rock & roll but I like it!
  • Symphonic prog: The real thing! Compositions are deep and complex and thought has been put to thematic progression of the music
  • Urban Prog: Complex modern rock. The melodies don't tend to be too harmonious and are often hidden under noise or hectick music.
